Let's talk about literacy!
The JEM foundation reading literacy program is dedicated to cultivating an authentic love for reading while addressing any literacy comprehension gaps. Studies have shown that lack of reading comprehension is the biggest hurdle to professional and personal success.
Reading comprehension is a significant part of daily life, and our program is tailored to the individual needs of every kind of reader. We have a host of different projects, events, and clubs to help students and families build a love for literacy.
How does the program grow our love for literacy?
Our program makes reading a fun thing to do, rather than a chore. We offer age-appropriate reading lists, reading tips and tricks, and an online book club. Our book club creates an opportunity for students and families to interact and connect with other book lovers and budding readers.
Additionally, this program gives students an opportunity to be shared owners in their literacy progress with student-friendly trackers and "words read" awards given out to participants.
All of our resources are curated by our reading literacy program director, Taylor Addison, M.Ed. and are always free for families.
How can I get my child to read more?
The number one way to encourage your child to read more is to remove any hurdles. Here are a few ways you can achieve that:
Set a reoccurring time for reading
Create a space for reading in your home
Join in the fun and read with your child
Set a timer for reasonable increments
Digital resources
There are numerous ways reading can be an experience for you and your child. However, the key to growing the love for reading is to make reading an experience for all to enjoy!
