At the JEM Foundation, we believe in creating a world in which families and children have access to resources that enrich their lives.
JEM Founders, Kiesha and Jarrod Lashley
Our Story
In April 2021, Kiesha and Jarrod Lashley founded John Evan Ministries (JEM) — is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, serving families and children in Greater Houston, Richmond/Rosenberg, Texas. The Lashley’s vision to start the foundation followed the devastating loss of their son, John Evan Lashley. On August 13, 2015, four weeks after his birthday, John passed away from Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC), a serious intestinal disease impacting premature babies. Out of devotion to John, the Lashley’s decided to turn their pain into purpose by helping families and children in need.
The Lashleys, along with a few dedicated volunteers, developed the Outreach Program, the Reading Literacy Program, and the Nutrition Program to improve and enrich the lives of families and children in their community. They enlisted the help of an accomplished educator, a seasoned chef, and an experienced marketing and communications specialist to create the Programs. The team spent countless hours mulling over ideas and developing easy-to-use resources to help students struggling with reading comprehension and deciding what’s for dinner.
In addition to the Outreach Program, Reading Literacy Program, and Nutrition Program, the JEM Foundation hosts family-friendly community events, cooking demos, and food and clothing drives. The foundation’s main goal is to have a positive impact on the community by promoting healthy habits and giving back.
